ESHA Research Helps Food Manufacturers Prepare for Health Canada’s Proposed Nutrition Facts Table Regulations
Salem, OR—ESHA Research, the leading provider of nutrition analysis and compliant food labeling solutions, announced a crucial software update for the Genesis R&D® Food Labeling Software. In response to Health Canada’s proposed regulatory changes for Nutrition Facts tables, Genesis R&D Version 11.2, now includes the proposed label formats.
Genesis R&D Version 11.2 allows users to see the visual changes to the proposed Canadian labels along with the modifications in nutrient standards. Echoing changes to the U.S. Nutrition Facts labels, the proposed Canadian labels will shift focus to Calories and serving size information, require potassium on the label and remove vitamins A and C from the mandatory nutrient set.
“Our customers are eager to see what their product labels will look like in the proposed format, so we made it a priority to incorporate sample labels into the software,” said Josh Luth, Product Manager. “The latest version of Genesis R&D contains sample proposed labels in the Standard, Tabular, and Linear formats.”
The regulations also propose requiring a % Daily Value for Total Sugar and the grouping of sugar-based items in the ingredient statement. Other proposed changes include modifying serving sizes to be more realistic and consistent, and adding a simple footnote to the label.
“We know how important compliance is to our customers and this will be a significant regulatory change,” said Craig Bennett, CEO at ESHA. “The development team at ESHA will continue monitoring the regulatory process and will implement the final regulations once they are released.”
