Labeling Software Released With Updated Added Sugars Display Options
Genesis R&D Foods incorporates latest FDA guidelines for labeling single-ingredient sugar products
SALEM, Ore. – ESHA announced today the implementation of the new regulations into their Genesis R&D Food Formulation & Labeling software, just one month after the FDA published final guidance on labeling for single-ingredient sugar products.
This release gives users the option to display only the percent Daily Value (%DV) of Added Sugars on their Nutrition Facts labels in accordance with the guidance for industry, which the FDA published to clarify wording in the 2018 Farm Bill.
“As soon as the FDA published the final guidance for Added Sugars labeling, many of our customers contacted us requesting the new display capability for their Genesis R&D software,” Craig Bennett, CEO of ESHA, said. “We knew something this important had to be implemented right away, so our users would have the tools they need for creating labels to their exact specs. And we were successful in getting the software released with the updated option in just a few weeks.”
Genesis R&D now includes the option to display on the label, the %DV for Added Sugars without the “Added Sugars” text and the gram weight value. In addition, the required explanatory statement will automatically appear at the bottom of the label when the option is selected.
This label option is intended for single-ingredient sugar products only, in compliance with the FDA guidance and the 2018 Farm Bill.
For users who want more information, Bennett said, example labels and instructions for using the new Added Sugar feature can be accessed in the online Genesis R&D Foods manual and from the tutorials page.
